It's About You

My Dad and I founded this shop on one idea: we would make things how our customers wanted them. Throughout the whole process of figuring out our product and store, we have stuck to that idea. It's about you.

My family has always been big on creativity and originality. 

My mom, Joy, loves finding new recipes. Only she doesn't exactly follow the directions; she tweaks it to suit her own personal cooking style, which is wonderfully delicious, might I add. Also, she's all about creativity when it comes to providing us with ideas about products; we would be lost without her. 

My youngest brother, Brody, is an original work, for sure. He knows everything about Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Minecraft, Halo, Legos, and probably more. So much so that I have given up to quizzing him; the kid knows his stuff. But he's not just a book/moive/video game nerd... He plays the tuba like a pro too.

I love being creative too. Whether in sewing, painting, or writing, I love it when an original idea is sparked. 

The head blockhead, my Dad, is all about originality. That is why he founded ABC Blockology; because he saw it as something no one else did yet.

All that to say, we more than promote creativity and originality, we live it. That is why we make it our goal to do whatever our customers what with our products. Do you want your favorite baseball team's name done in their colors? We can do that. Do you want all of your children's names done in coordinating colors? We can do that. Do you want a "Kiss The Cook" sign done in your kitchen's color palette? Yes. You guessed it; we can do that too.

The Beginning

We carry a variety of projects. We also allow our customers to be creative and original themselves! Custom blocks can be ordered to say whatever you want in whatever colors you want!

We began our Etsy store mid-January of 2013. Our shop was founded on what my mom thought was a simple decor project. When my nephew was visiting us for Christmas last year, Momma decided to buy a bag of alphabet blocks to spell his name out on our mantle. However, she soon discovered that this was no easy task; she had to buy two bags of blocks to spell his six-letter name: Hobbes. Even then, the color phase was something akin to red-yellow-green-green-yellow-green. 

My father, ever the craft man, started explore what it would take to alternate the colors more uniformly. He discovered how much he enjoyed working with the blocks, discovering which paints looked best, combined colors, and more. He started calling it the “study of blocks”, and eventually ABC Blockology was born! It evolved from children names to kitchen and holiday decor to sayings. 

Our blocks are what you make them to be; it's our goal to serve our customers and put a little something special into your home. The Boyd family obviously loves originality, so we fully welcome our customers to be original!

About Us

The Boyd family consists of a bunch of loud, loving southerners. We are Sweet Home Alabama's brand of the big Italian family. We cook, we laugh, we hug, we pray, we relax, we play, we work, we build, we create. We create laughs, we create dinner, we create memories, we create blocks. 

My mom, Joy, heads up the creativity department of our house; she comes up with many of our clever phrases, along with concocting the most delicious dinners south of the Arctic circle. She also keeps finances strictly in check, mainly so she and I end up with a little leftovers for shopping sprees.

Speaking of him, my dad, Danny, is what we like to call the “Head Blockhead” in the business. He founded ABC Blockology; when he gets an idea, he is pretty adamant about it. In the beginning of our business, if he saw something that needed tweaking, he tweaked it until it could be tweaked no more. He has a passion for originality in business, and ABC Blockology provides him with just that. 

Next in the line up comes yours truly, my name is Glennleigh. I head up sales operations, quality control, and basically anything else I am asked to do. I love watching my dad create the blocks with rhythm and originality; it's what drew me into helping him. 

The last of Santa's little helpers is Brody, the youngest; he's our packaging guy, taking care of safely settling in our orders before they start their journey to you. The goal of the Boyd family is to spread a little creativity and originality to your home!
